Beauty Product Toxins

Finding an all-natural product line is as important to your health as the things you eat and drink. If you wouldn’t ingest TOXINS and chemicals, then why smear them all over your body? Your skin is your biggest organ. AND ITS PERMEABLE! Our skin absorbs 60% of any topical product we use! 60%!! Our skin is very absorbent, and when you use products such as moisturizers, cleansers and toners, the ingredients within these are getting absorbed into our bodies. Chemicals are toxins that are very disruptive to the body. Natural products, which are made from nuts, trees as well as flowers and plants and their extracts. These natural products are designed to nourish our bodies . Researchers report that cosmetic chemical exposure, even at low levels, may negatively affect reproductive hormone health. The water you drink, toothpaste, food with pesticides or preservatives, shampoo, skincare, make-up, hair dye, tooth fillings, pollution, plastics and medication are all, to some extent, endocrine disruptors. { An Endocrine disruptor is a chemical compound that interferes with the normal functioning of the endocrine system and the reproductive and other biological processes regulated by it.} The endocrine system, aka the “hormone system”, includes our thyroid, adrenals, ovaries, pancreas, hypothalamus and pituitary glands. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are chemicals in our water, food and hygiene and beauty products that interfere with the production, transport, breakdown, binding and elimination of hormones. Any prolonged exposure to these chemicals can affect the body in ways that could lead to a number of health problems, including weight gain, hypothyroid, infertility, adrenal imbalances, estrogen dominance, lowered sperm counts, obesity, diabetes, and certain types of cancers. According to a 2004 study by the Environmental Working Group. The average woman uses 12-16 different beauty products every day — on her head and face. It is no wonder that cancer, infertility, and allergies are on the rise! You might assume that all these ingredients have been tested to ensure that they're safe for long-term use. That's not the case. This includes most face and body cleansers, hair and beard conditioners, hair dyes, perfumes, beauty products, lotions, and makeup. Products contain multiple chemicals that can adversely impact health, such as formaldehyde, parabens, lead, mercury and several others. I have listed a few here and WHY they are so damaging.

  1. Lead: A carcinogen and hormone disruptor found in certain eyeliners, hair dye and lipsticks.

  2. Formaldehyde: Carcinogen and irritant found in nail products, hair dye, fake-eyelash adhesives and certain shampoos.

  3. Fragrance: Has hormone-disrupting effects. This synthetic is also linked to headaches, dizziness, asthma and allergies. Use products with natural scents only. (essential oils and flower essences)

  4. Diethylene glycol (or DEG): A central nervous system depressant and potent kidney and liver toxin. Common ingredients in personal care products.

  5. Oxybenzone: A chemical sunscreens. It accumulates in fatty tissues over time and is linked to allergies, hormone disruption and cellular damage.

  6. Mercury: An irritant and allergen that over time, can impair the brain and nervous system.

  7. Parabens (Propyl-, Isopropyl-, Butyl- and Isobutyl-): A common preservative is currently being investigated for its link to breast tumors. These chemicals have an estrogen-like property.

  8. DEA/TEA/MEA (Ethanolamines): Emulsifiers and foaming agents in shampoos, body washes, and soaps. Associated with cancer in animal studies.

  9. Sodium lauryl (ether) sulfate (SLS, SLES): An industrial degreaser that is used to make soap foamy, it’s absorbed into the body.
